Before starting your massage therapy business you need to have clear massage business goals. Why?
In a previous post, I talked about how to define business objectives and how to make clear business goals. In this article, let us talk about what areas you should focus your massage business goals on.
Goals are your objectives for your massage business. Business goals set the direction where you want your business to be heading in the future as you have very clear targets in mind.
Having clearly defined goals can mean a highly likelyhood of success for your massage business as you know where you need to invest your time, energy and resources. Therefore it is essential to plan every detail of your business.
Here are some areas for consideration for your massage business goals:
· Clients
You have to know who your target clients are. Without clients, you have no massage business. Clients are obviously the key component in your business because they pay for your services which brings in your revenue. You want to be very clear on which types of clients you are targetting.
Here are some questions you should ask yourself.
Do you want to focus on giving massages for pregnant women, athletes, or people with certain conditions? And for your choice of client – do they actually exist in your area or will you be going to them? When you know your target client, you will be clearer about which strategies you want to implement to attract them.
· Competition
You need to know what your competition is in your area. It would be better to set up your studio in an area where your particular massage services are not offered or whereby there is an abundance of clients. Here is where market research comes in and this involves an analysis of your competitors.
· Services
What services are you offering to your clients? What are the unique services that only your business can offer? It can give you the edge if you can offer something different in addition to what is offered by your competitors. You want to stand out from the crowd and not blend in.
· Objectives
What are your business objectives to drive the business ahead? Think in terms of marketing, training and other strategies and improvements for both yourself as therapist and your business. This will guide you where you want your business to go. Remember, use a SMART objective.
Successfully building your massage business can take a lot of time, commitment and focus. But having massage business goals to guide you, it keeps on you on track and with a clear direction ahead.
